The week-long residency comes to a close with Hofesh Shechter’s latest work, fittingly called Grand Finale, a spectacularly bold and ambitious new piece featuring 10 dancers and 6 musicians. Grand Finale is at once comic, bleak and beautiful, evoking a world at odds with itself, full of anarchic energy and violent comedy. Filtering this irrepressible spirit, Shechter creates a vision of a world in freefall: part gig, part dance, part theatre and wholly original.

[FR] Grand Finale, la dernière création de la compagnie, clôt cette semaine dédiée à la Hofesh Shechter Company. Cette pièce pour 10 danseurs et 6 musiciens balance entre énergie anarchique et comédie violente. Comique, sombre et belle, elle est une nouvelle preuve de la façon dont Shechter, qui avance à l’instinct et suit ses envies en les articulant dans des cadres spectaculaires solides, ne lésine pas sur les moyens pour faire grimper la tension sur scène. La danse est plongée dans un bain sonore de haute volée, interprété en direct par un groupe de musiciens capables de jouer à la fois traditionnel et rock.

Grand Finale ist Hofesh Shechters neueste Arbeit – und auch sie hat mehr als überzeugt. Als komisch, düster und schön zugleich bezeichnet Shechter sein Werk. Es zeichnet das Bild einer Welt, die mit sich selbst ringt, eine Welt im freien Fall, voll anarchischer Energie und grausamer Komik. 6 Musiker spielen live die von Shechter wie stets selbst komponierte Klangkulisse auf unterschiedlichen Instrumenten. Dazu tanzen 10 Ensemblemitglieder aus 8 unterschiedlichen Ländern und Tom Visser bietet „fabelhaftes Lichtdesign“ (Frankfurter Rundschau, Sylvia Staude).
